How We Help You Use Your Long-Term Care Insurance

You don’t need to know your benefit amounts or waiting period before you call. We’ll help you find out.

  1. Talk with a nurse about care needs

A nurse talks with you by phone or in your home about the help that’s needed and when it should start. The consultation is free.

  2. Review your policy requirements

We review your policy and check with your insurance company what it needs before benefits can begin.

  3. Coordinate care and paperwork

We arrange your care, obtain the physician forms and plan of care your insurer asks for, and submit the claim documentation.

We’re a licensed home care agency serving Asheville and the surrounding area. Care can include companion and respite care, certified nurse aide (CNA) care, licensed nurse care and our shower team, from a few hours a week to around-the-clock support.

What We Help You Check in Your Policy

Every long-term care insurance policy is different. These are the details that usually decide how a policy works for care at home.

Covered home care services

Which kinds of help at home the policy pays for, such as help with bathing, dressing or other daily activities, and whether care must come from a licensed agency.

Benefit requirements

What your insurer needs before benefits start. Many policies require a need for help with daily activities or a cognitive impairment, confirmed by a health professional and a plan of care.

Waiting (elimination) period

The number of days before the policy begins paying. Policies differ in how long it is and how the days are counted.

Daily or monthly limits

The most the policy pays per day or month, and any lifetime maximum. If care costs more than the limit, the difference is usually not covered.

Payment arrangements

We can help confirm whether direct billing is available under your policy and explain any costs you may need to pay.

Your policy and your insurance company decide what is covered. We can’t promise approval, but we’ll help you find out.

Long-Term Care Insurance Company Directory

Questions About Using Long-Term Care Insurance for Home Care

Can I use my existing long-term care insurance policy for home care?

Many long-term care insurance policies include benefits for care at home, but every policy is different. Your policy and your insurance company decide what’s covered. Contact us and we’ll help you find out what yours includes.

Can you work with my insurance company?

We help clients with policies from the companies shown on this page and from others. We’re a licensed home care agency, which many policies require. If your company isn’t listed, contact us and we’ll look at your policy with you.

What information should I have ready when I call?

It helps to know the name of the insurance company and to have the policy or recent paperwork nearby. We’ll also ask about the help that’s needed and when care should start. Don’t worry if you don’t know your benefit amounts or waiting period yet. We can help you find out.

Can you help with claims paperwork and billing?

Yes. We review your policy, obtain the physician forms and plan of care your insurer asks for, and submit the claim documentation. Some insurance companies let us bill them directly, while others reimburse you, so we’ll confirm how billing works under your policy. We don’t require payment up front from long-term care insurance clients and wait for your reimbursement to begin.

What happens during a waiting or elimination period?

Many policies have a waiting period, counted in days, before benefits begin. Your policy explains how long it is and how the days are counted. We’ll talk through payment arrangements for any waiting period with you.

What costs might I need to pay myself?

That depends on your policy. Common examples are care during a waiting period, care above a daily or monthly limit, and services a policy doesn’t cover. We’ll explain any costs you may need to pay.

What if I need care before my insurer has made a decision?

Call us. An insurance company can take time to review a claim. We’ll talk with you about starting care and about payment arrangements while it does.
